Day 3: What's Filling You? Identifying Your Wine
Reading: Ephesians 5:18-21; Titus 2:11-14
Devotional: "Do not be drunk with wine...but be filled with the Spirit." Paul warns against being drunk with wine, but your "wine" might not be alcohol. What controls you? For some, it's literally alcohol or substances. For others, it's pornography, emotional drama, binge-watching, constant scrolling, or even your own point of view—the fleshly trinity of "me, myself, and I." Ask yourself: What do I reach for first when I'm tired, angry, lonely, or bored? If it's not God, that's your "wine," your substitute comforter, your numbing agent. It could be endless scrolling, binge-watching, emotional drama, or even your own stubborn opinions. Grace isn't just forgiveness; it's a trainer teaching you to say no to these substitutes and yes to the Holy Spirit. Being filled with the Spirit is a continuous, daily lifestyle of yielding and surrendering. It's not just a one-time altar experience. Grace purifies your present and prepares you for good works. Today, identify what controls you besides God, and surrender it. Choose to turn from the numbing agents and run to the Comforter, the Holy Spirit who truly satisfies.
Reflection Question: What do I turn to for comfort instead of God, and how can I replace that habit today?
