Day 5: Keep the Fire Burning
Reading: 2 Timothy 1:6-7; 1 Thessalonians 5:19 Ephesians 5:15-21
Devotional:
Paul told Timothy to "stir up the gift of God" within him. Fire that isn't fed goes out. The baptism in the Holy Spirit isn't a one-time event you frame and hang on the wall; it's the beginning of a lifestyle of saturation. Your initial encounter with the Holy Spirit isn't meant to be a distant memory, it's meant to be a daily reality. You don't receive Spirit baptism once and coast forever, you cultivate it daily. How? You maintain the fire through daily worship that’s more than a song. Through praying in the Spirit when you don't know what to pray. From time spent reading His Word & obedience to what is says. Through obeying the Holy Spirit's promptings quickly, not negotiating. Through staying connected to other hungry believers who fan your flame. Through protecting what God has put in you by guarding against compromise. and fellowship with other hungry believers. Being soaked and smoking isn't a one-time experience; it's a lifestyle of surrender and stirring. Don't let yesterday's fire become today's ashes. Every morning, yield yourself afresh. Every day, ask Him to fill you again. God wants you saturated to set on fire & walking in sustained power, not sporadic moments. The enemy wants to quench your fire through distraction, discouragement, and compromise. But God wants you living soaked and smoking continuously filled, continuously flowing, continuously impacting everyone around you with His presence. Don't settle for a memory of fire; pursue the reality of it today. Stir up what God has placed in you. Stirring up the gift means intentional cooperation with the Spirit through worship, prayer, obedience, and fellowship with other believers. It means using your prayer language daily, not just at church. God hasn't given you a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. When you feel the fire dimming, don't accept it as normal. Stir it up. Get back in God's presence. Surrender. The same Spirit who filled you wants to keep you saturated and set ablaze. Worship Him, pray in tongues, read His Word, and obey quickly. Let today be a day of fresh filling and renewed passion for Jesus.
Reflection:
What daily practices will I commit to that will keep the fire of the Holy Spirit burning brightly in my life?
Closing Prayer:
"Holy Spirit, thank You for the promise of power, presence, and fire. I don't want to live dry or lukewarm. Baptize me afresh today. Fill every room of my heart. Make me a carrier of Your presence everywhere I go. I yield myself completely—my mind, my mouth, my life—to You. Keep me soaked in Your presence and smoking with Your fire, for Your glory alone. In Jesus' name, Amen."
