Removing Wet Blankets & Fire Extinguishers-Day #2 Hosting Heaven's Holy Fire

Day 2: Removing Wet Blankets & Fire Extinguishers

Reading: Ephesians 4:30; Hebrews 2:1

Devotional:
You don't have to rebel against God to lose your fire—you can simply drift. Unrepented sin, compromise, and spiritual neglect act like wet blankets on the flame of the Holy Spirit. God doesn't withhold His fire because He's mean; He loves you too much to bless what will destroy you. God doesn't withdraw His presence because He's harsh; unrepented sin simply creates barriers between you and the One you're hosting. Even more subtle is spiritual drift—the slow fade that comes from neglecting your secret place, surrounding yourself with lukewarm voices, or drowning in busyness without His presence. Jesus warned the busy Ephesian church: "You have left your first love." Today, identify what's dampening your flame. Whether it is obvious sin or subtle distraction and remove it before the fire dies completely. Examine your life honestly today: What secret compromises, addictions or behaviors are you calling "struggles" instead of repenting? What relationships, habits, or entertainment are draining your spiritual vitality or pull you away from God’s presence? The Holy Spirit is grieved when we tolerate what He's trying to transform. But here's the good news: the faster you repent, the hotter you'll burn. Don't let sin accumulate like spiritual clutter. Keep short accounts with God. The company you keep matters profoundly—fire is contagious, but so is coldness. Surrounding yourself with lukewarm influences will gradually cool your own passion. God loves you too much to pour fresh fire on an altar cluttered with idols. Clear the altar. Remove the wet blankets. Let His fire burn freely. Remove the fire extinguishers, and watch your flame grow stronger.
Reflection:
What "wet blankets" need to be removed from your life?

Where have you been drifting?
