Guarding the Flame-Day#5-Hosting Heaven's Heavenly Fire

Day 5: Guarding the Flame

Reading: Hebrews 10:24-25; Galatians 5:16; Proverbs 4:23; Matthew 24:10-12; Acts 4:31

Devotional:
A coal pulled from the fire will go cold, but placed back among burning coals, it ignites again. You cannot maintain spiritual fire in isolation. Your inner circle matters—the people closest to you should stir hunger for God, not drain it. Evaluate your relationships: Are you fellowshipping with fire carriers or wet blankets? Walking in the Spirit produces visible fruit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness. Real fire doesn't just make you loud in worship; it makes you Christ-like in how you treat your spouse, respond to disrespect, and behave when no one's watching. A still-smoking believer looks for opportunities to witness, lives with sensitivity to the Spirit's leading, and guards their heart from offense and unforgiveness. Stay close to the fire, and watch your flame grow. What you've been given is precious, guard it fiercely. Protect your gates: what you watch, hear, and scroll affects your spiritual temperature. Some entertainment isn't sinful but leaves you spiritually cold and empty. Guard against offense and unforgiveness; these extinguish love faster than anything else. You cannot keep God's fire burning in a heart you refuse to surrender or forgive with. Finally, guard your schedule. If God always gets your leftovers, your fire will fade. Order your life around His presence, not His presence around your life. The early church in Acts 4:31 was filled again—not just once—and boldness flowed from that continual filling. Live as a lifelong flame, still smoking, setting your world ablaze for Jesus.

Reflection:

What needs guarding in your life right now? Who do you need to forgive to protect your fire?
