Day 5: Walking by Identity, Not History
Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:17; Romans 8:31-39
Devotional:
How you see yourself determines how you walk. You are not "an addict trying to get clean" or "an angry person trying to calm down." That may describe your history, but it's not your identity. In Christ, you are a new creation. The old has passed away. You are more than a conqueror, the temple of the Holy Spirit, completely loved and fully accepted. Your true self isn't the one struggling in secret at 1 a.m.—that's the old you trying to resurrect. Your true self is the one who says, "This isn't who I am anymore." Stop introducing yourself by your struggle and start declaring who you are in Christ: forgiven, clean, free, more than a conqueror. Your feelings may lag behind God's Word, but truth isn't determined by emotions. When temptation whispers, "This is just who you are," respond with Scripture: "Old things have passed away; all things have become new." Victory isn't you trying harder; it's you agreeing deeper with who you already are in Christ. Victory isn't about trying harder; it's about agreeing deeper with who you already are in Christ. Your feelings may lag behind, but God's Word stands firm: you are new. Today, stop identifying with your struggle and start identifying with your Savior. Declare: "I am who God says I am. I am free, victorious, and led by His Spirit." Now walk like it's true—because it is.
