Day 2: Guarding Against Deception
Reading: 2 Corinthians 11:3; Galatians 5:7-9
Devotional: The serpent's oldest trick remains his most effective: "Did God really say...?" He doesn't usually present obvious lies; he twists truth just enough to lead you off course. Like a road sign turned a few degrees, a small deception can send you miles away from God's will. You were running well. What hindered you? Who cut in on you?" The enemy whispers half-truths: "God will forgive you anyway," or "This isn't that bad." But these corruptions pull you from the simplicity that is in Christ. The enemy rarely announces his intentions; instead, he whispers subtle suggestions: "Skip prayer today—you're tired." "Scroll just a little longer." Before you realize it, your focus has drifted from Jesus to everything else. The serpent's ancient strategy with Eve remains his favorite tactic: corrupting your mind from the simplicity of devotion to Christ. Busyness, entertainment overload, and manufactured drama become his tools. But here's the truth: what you focus on shapes what you follow. Today, ask the Holy Spirit to expose any lie you've been believing. Bring every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Identify what has "cut in" on your race. When deception is exposed to the light of God's Word, it loses its power over you. A distracted Christian is a defeated Christian. Recommit to fixing your gaze on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith.
Reflection Question:
What specific distraction has been stealing your attention from your secret place with God?
What "almost-truth" have you been believing that doesn't align with Scripture?
