God Chasers Daily Devotion-#28

Brethren, when we finally have our meeting with God, it has to be alone in the depths of our being. We will be alone even if we are surrounded by a crowd. God has to cut every maverick out of the herd and brand him all alone. It isn’t something that God can do for us en masse.
(A.W. Tozer, The Tozer Pulpit, Book. 8, 81, as quoted in Worship and Entertainment, 33
Luke 19:1  And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.
Luke 19:2  And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.
Luke19:3  And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.
Luke19:4  And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
Luke 19:5  And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.
Luke 19:6  And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.
Here we see  Jesus is coming to Jericho and is walking down the street. Jesus was surrounded by a crowd. Zacchaeus had to see this Jesus he had heard so much about. He just wanted to get a glimpse of Him. Zacchaeus was a small man in size. He would have been called short. He could see because of the crowd. He had 2 options give up and not see Jesus or try something different. Zacchaeus decided to try something different, to go the extra mile. Zacchaeus climbed a tree that put him higher than everyone else and he had a clear view of Jesus.
Jesus saw Zacchaeus in the tree and to Zacchaeus's surprise Jesus called out to him by name and told him to come to Him. Of course, Zacchaeus did just that. He ran to meet Jesus. If it had not been for Zacchaeus going the extra mile and climbing that tree to see Jesus, Jesus would have walked on by and Zacchaeus would have missed his moment with Jesus. God is waiting on us. God is walking down the street, He is approaching. There is a crowd. We have to stand out from the crowd and do whatever it takes to see Him. Our desire to see Him has to stand out in the crowd of our own fleshly desires, motivations, ambitions and ideas. We need to take this time in our lives to press in and do whatever it takes to get closer to God and see His face. We need to take this time and leave behind our old ways and focus on the new ways and direction God is taking us. Zacchaeus climbed a tree to get a better view of Jesus, however we get our better view of Jesus through humility and surrender. Surrender yourself to the Lord today and seek with all of your heart to see Him. Like Zacchaeus He will call you by name and come to you and you will have fellowship with Him!!! (P.K)
